How to gain hits on a website...
By Me (otherwise known as SSj Heero)
I have tried many ways to gain hits for my site. I
have tried to do it actively, through topsite lists
to message boards. None of them seem to have worked,
so I decided NOT to actively advertise my page. I made
subtle links and such on my friend's website and on
FanFiction.net in my fanfictions, and more importantly,
word of mouth. I have found that these means worked
a lot better than the topsites and message boards. I
found it is better to focus on your webpage itself than
advertising, and by doing so, I feel I have created
a page that is respectable (even IF the layout is typical)
even by YOU (no not Meri, but YOU the reader if she
posts this). I mostly depend on word of mouth, as does
most of any other (GOOD) webmaster such as Mr. E and
Meri. This method is the best way to spread news of
your site, but in order to have people actually RECOMMEND
your site, it has to be good and as complete as possible
first! SO if I have strayed off topic a bit, I will
explain some ways of advertising and explain its flaws
and pros.
TOPSITES (I really do dislike these cursed things...)
- Most of the websites are unoriginal and don't express
ANY emotion, so why should anyone care if they got ToT
or Namek? Also, the higher ranking sites depend on the
"Vote for me to continue" philosophy. It is
a good start, but there would be too much competition.
Message Boards - Most sites have message boards hidden
in some remote location, and besides, other people use
message boards for links. Why do you need to be wedged
between "Vegeta's Wrath" (No offense. It has
a good layout but unoriginal stuff.) or "Saiyan
Clan" (Same here.) ? I should call it "free
advertising".
Big, popular sites - Sounds like a good prospect, ne?
Well if your sites is total crap (like mine), do you
ACTUALLY think they would link to you?
Friend's site - Sure, your friend won't mind an extra
link in his/her link section right? Well this will either
work or not depending on that site's visitors.
Fanfiction.net - THIS is what people should think of.
Hey, if you have a good imagination, why not write a
fanfiction here and there and put a link to your site
inside? Of course this depends on the readers and how
good you fiction is, so don't depend on it TOO much.
Word of Mouth - This is what you should think of the
most in advertising. It is far more believable to hear
a friend say it than you say, "My SiTe RuLeS!!!"
on a topsite or a message board.
Of course there are far more different and creative
ways to advertise your site, but I just thought of a
few. The key in all of these (except the first two)
depend on a good, original site full of emotion and/or
humor. So the best way to get hits: Build a GOOD website
and don't force people to vote for you. That is all
I have to say. It would make you feel more fulfilled
in the end.
Oh, before I end this pointless rant of mine, here
is my website (which is not that good, but I don't think
it is bad either): http://ssjheero0.tripod.com
It can't compare to the God(s) of Knowledge (Mr. E/Vegetto
EX) or the Goddess of Humor (Meri), but it is much better
than "SpEr SeYaJn'S LaIr" thats for sure.
...(Did I really think Meri would post THIS rant? Oh
well, I did need to waste fifteen or so minutes.)
