Rage against the money making machine
I know that in the midst of all these editorials about
how (for lack of a better word) "extremist"
DBZ otakus are taking things too far by bitching and
complaining about every little thing that is wrong in
NADBZ, writing an editorial like this might not get
me alot of good publicity, but I do
believe that I am entitled to my own opinion. There
are several reasons why I am, not so much angry as annoyed
with FUNimation. Most of these reasons have already
been covered way too much for me to touch on,(cough,
voices, cough)but the main reason(or one of them, anyway)
that I am annoyed is that I think that if FUNimation
tried a little harder, they could do a
magnificent job of dubbing DBZ, but the problem is that
to try harder, FUNimation would need to use its assets,
and assets require money. They could easily negotiate
deals to get the original music, for example. Many people
might come back with something along the lines of "that's
not as easy as you think." and yet, Pioneer has
already done it in several instances, such as with Tenchi
Muyo. I also applaude the company that dubbed Gundam
W. I was watching a couple of days ago and all of a
sudden, a song started up, and in Japanese, none the
less! It was a beautiful song, and fit the moment excellently.
I wondered to myself, "If that company could get
the music, why
can't FUNimation?" Am I to believe that TOEI is
holding onto the music SO tightly that it won't let
it go for anything? It couldn't be. Why, you ask? Watch
Telemundo DBZ and you'll know exactly what I'm talking
about. Now, some other topics. I just have a quick reponse
to Holly Chou's Editorial "Impressionable Youth."
When you said that violence desensetizes, I agree, but
when you said that it doesn't make people want to immitate
it, I have to disagree. When people see certain things
which they think are "cool", they try to immitate
it. I am talking about Wrestling here. People always
immitate that. You cant understand where I am coming
from until you yourself have been picked up by a 6'8
tall guy, turned upside down, and piledrived right into
the gym floor. Then, that same day someone ran up behind
me, twisted my arm and dropped us both down, almost
breaking my arm. Another thing about the editorial is
that you are right. Parents and adults are always looking
for a scapegoat so they don't have to take the blame
themselves.Thats all for that editorial. Now for the
DBZ cult. I really think you(underfaker) are passing
judgement rather quickly before you really understand
what the otakus are trying to get at as their ultimate
goal. Anime is a truly beautiful thing, and DBZ is one
of my favorite animes. After all, It was (and still
is) the best selling manga ever, and the anime translation
added alot of good stuff, such as the music. All I'm
gonna say is that DBZ otakus want DBZ to get better,
because we have seen the original side of DBZ, and it's
an excellent thing, and all we want is for others who
don't know as much as us to get aquainted with DBZ,
so they can know of its beauty like we do. I am not
trying to force my opinion of anyone. If you don't like
it, then that's fine, but some people do. Just so you
know, though, most of the otakus who complain as seriously
as you said they do are notreally serious fans, just
ignorant FUNi haters. A true otaku is just a calm fan
of the show who doesn't have to use 4 letter words to
get his/her point across. That's really all I have to
say, so if anyone want's to send comments of complaints
(no email bombs please) my adress is
gotenks_100@hotmail.com
