Anime? Manga? Dubbed?
Subbed? A General Editorial
By Ian Esmay
I would like to just give my general opinion on Dragon
Ball, whether it be the Anime, Manga, Dubed or subbed.
First, the pros and cons of the Manga. I am what you
would call a "dubbie" so I am of course I
only read the Manga released by Viz. But that does not
matter as what I am gonna say I only need one issue
to do so. Anyway, the pro is that Viz does not butcher
it up like FUNimation did even though I think they did
not butcher it up. The Manga is easy to accsess and
just as enjoyable as the Anime. But, when Toei Animation
took DB they added a bunch of extras to it. Watching
the Anime that is in the same part that the Manga is
was a lot more enjoyable because of all the "extras"
addded in. That is my main opinon of the Manga and Anime.
Now, about the U.S. and Japanese ones... I have seen
the Japanese Anime so what I am about to say will have
a good opinon to it. I think that in Seasons 1 and 2
I could hardly notice any editing except that instead
of saying "Dead" they say "Sucks."
In my opinon Suck is a worse word that dead. Also,
sometimes when they get hit they are just down and you
didn't see them get hit. That stuck me as odd. The backround
music got annoying sometimes but the voices were what
was great. I love how Piccolo's voice sounds down right
mean in the begining but he sounds more like a good
guy later on. And everyone elses voices are good too.
Then(me being a dubbie and all)I was very angry when
no new episodes were showing. So, I went to the internet.
I found out all this cool info I never knew before.
By the time I was done I was amazed at what happened
later on. But...I actually had to stop myself form reading
the info cause I didnt want to spoil the show for me.
I wait and wait and wait. Season 3 comes. The voices,
especially the ones of the Ginyu Force, sounded very
wierd. I
liked Piccolos old voice much better and the others,
except Freeza, sounded fine, even Vegeta.(I don't know
why eveyone makes a big deal about his Season 3 voice.
I don't reallty notice a diffrence.) In Season 3 the
backround music is much better with more than two notes...
And I
love how they don't censor it as much. The only thing
I found wierd was when Krillin blew up. I got the Uncencored
version and it made much more sense when I saw how he
really blew up. If I could sum up Season 3 in one word
it would be: AWESOME!!! This is all FUNimartion needs
to do:
Combine Season 1's audio with Season 3's visual...DBZ
would just be evenmore AWESOME!!!!
