What's this? An editorial with
NEW material?!

Allright, it seems that I have been called
to task about some of the things I have written about
DBZ, espically "Episode V- The Uninformed Strike
Back!" I have come to answer some of these outcrys
and even write a (kinda) new editorial! Yippee!
First off, the questions I asked at the end of the editorial
where meant only by this- I asked the questions because
possibly in the fansubs or the manga the questions didn't
get answered. The "reviving Raditz" thing
got answered because I didn't know about the one year
policy of reviving
somebody. Something that was answered in either the
manga or the fansub. I have to admit, some of the questions
I did ask out of sarcasm, but the rest I really thought
some answer may have been given. The Cell question was
EXTREMELY sarcastic but apparently a few people didn't
get it. I'M SORRY. Now, about the "Head-Cha-La"
thing, I still stand by my position. I like "Rock
The Dragon" better than "Head-Cha-La"
and that doesn't mean I hate everything that Akira has
done. If I did hate it, I sure as hell wouldn't waste
my time in writing these letters and watching F'N DBZ!!!
Now, I don't hate the song because I can't understand
it. I still have a hard time understanding "Smells
Like Teen Spirit" but I enjoy it. I don't like
the original opening theme because its my opinion. Not
anybody elses. And by the way, i'm not complaining to
Temple of Trunks. Ms. Meri is merely letting me state
my opinion and I thank her gratefully for that. If I
do ANY complaining, its only because I am frustrated
by something.
I didn't know about the manga being in existance a few
years before the show, so I am sorry for that one. See,
i'm a REAL man, I admit my mistakes.
Now...censorship. I know I've talked about it before
and such, so I have once again decided to do the unpopular
thing and...sigh...defend it. I've seen censorship in
DBZ and I have to say this much...it ain't so bad.
I've purchased almost every episode of the Frieza saga
in the Uncut format. I also have almost every episode
of the Frieza saga from Cartoon Network (a.k.a. the
Cut format) and you aren't missing too much. You want
to know some of the things they cut out? First off,
blood is cut way down, but since I'm not a Sayia-Jin,
blood doesn't mean too much to me. They also cut out
some swearing (Dende- "Don't piss of the dragon!")
and I know some of the editing of the swearing on the
Japanese version, noticably Goku yelling out "Sh*t!!!!"
as Namek explodes. The only other thing I notice is
they take out some nudity.
Blood- Sure, it keeps us alive and any kid knows what
it is before they are old enough to talk, but do we
really need to see a lot of it? Sure, it makes the story
more plausible, but since mother's buy most of the DBZ
merchandise and allow children to watch the show thats
what we get. If you
are that much of a ghoul, then buy the Uncut version
or go rent Faces Of Death.
Do we really need a lot of cussing? I like to cuss a
lot (I am a Texan) and its good to get your point across.
But do you REALLY need to hear it? Are you really such
a depraved individual that you need to hear a lot of
bad words? Does the continuation of the DBZ universe
and our own REALLY need it? Granted, some of the stuff
is pretty damn corny, but this is a show geared to younger
audiences, aimed at younger audiences and intended for
younger audiences. And no matter what we say or do,
it will always be that way. The American populace wants
it that way and so FUNimation will do that.
As for the nudity, well...I can do well without frontal
nudity of a young Goku or Gohan and I can do well without
seeing their asses, Vegeta's ass or Trunk's ass (sorry
Ms. Meri!). Does seeing nudity make you happy? For some
it might, but I can do well without it, thank you.
