Since
the year 2000, I've put up some sort of wacky site trick
in honor of April Fool's Day. Why? It's an excuse to be
crazy, do something stupid, and see how many site visitors
actually fall for it and e-mail me saying my site was
hacked. Despite doing this year after year, people still
seem to believe these gags. :P |

2007 - Temple O'
Trunks.... Literally: This is the year of bad
puns. It was simple, effective, and I can't believe
I didn't pull this gag sooner. :D
-
2006 - Meri
and the Temple O' Trunks get Assimilated by Daizenshuu
EX: Having helped out with the
Daizenshuu
EX Podcast for months, I decide it's time for
me to merge my site with theirs!

2005 - Meri
Quits, ToT Gets New Owner and a New Look:
It occurred to me that after years of running this
site, I never did the obvious "I'm quitting
this site" prank. I figured that having run
the site for so long, it wouldn't be TOO unreasonable
for me to say I quit and have people believe it.
I wanted to make it look like I handed the site
over to someone who is very much the opposite of
me in terms of fan tastes and style. So, what do
we end up with? A Trunks yaoi site! In the end,
this prank (ie: the new site design) took under
an hour for me to make. :P I'm getting lazy in my
old age.
-
2004 - Eric Vale goes to jail and gets
fired: This was a faily easy gag that didn't
involve my having to redesign the site! By taking
screencaps from "Hall of Mirrors," the
movie Eric appeared in a few years ago, I made the
following claim on the main page of the ToT:
**
We need YOUR help!! **
I've just received some depressing
Trunks-related news from a fan, "SSJ_Bra-chan20"
from Texas. While at a restaurant/bar with her
family, she noticed the English voice actor for
Trunks, Eric Vale (Johnson) having a drink. She
claims she wanted to go ask for an autograph and
get his picture when he got into a vicious bar
brawl with several patrons, including an elderly
man. She said she does not know the nature of
the argument, but she does know Eric was hauled
off by the police in handcuffs.
Since she had a digital camera
on hand, she was able to take a few photos of
the incident (see below):
While this is indeed shocking,
I am saddened to hear this news about my favorite
FUNimation voice actor.
To make matters worse, my
contact within FUNimation has informed me that
Eric has been fired as a result of this bar brawl
and subsequent arrest, and will no longer provide
the voice for Future Trunks in any upcoming dubs
of the DBZ movies or video games. With the dub
of DBZ Movie 9 nearing completion, I have received
word that Chris Sabat (Vegeta/Piccolo/Yamcha/etc.)
will be providing the voice for Trunks.
This is terrible blow to Trunks
and Eric Vale fans everywhere. With DBZ nearing
completion (simply in terms of the movies), we
should hope to see Eric finish his job as Trunks
to the end. Movie 9 is going to be the LAST appearance
of Future Trunks (Chibi Trunks is in the rest
of the DBZ movies), so this is our LAST chance
to hear Future Trunks and Eric Vale in ANY DBZ-related
dub. In light of this incident, I'm starting an
online petition on this site to send to FUNimation
so that Eric can get his job back.
PLEASE
SIGN MY PETITION TO GET BACK THE VOICE OF TRUNKS!!!
Thank you, and have a great
day.
All in all, it was a fun, easy, and simple prank
that somehow managed to fool a small amount of people,
despite the fact that the link to the "petition"
takes you to a page that says it's all a joke. :D
-
2003 - Temple O' Zoro!:
My recent obsession with the anime "One Piece"
was the cause for this year's gag (that, and the
fact that I couldn't think of anything better to
do). I thought it would be subtley amusing that
the new site would be dedicated to not only another
anime character who wields a sword, but is also
about a guy from a show that FUNimation will eventually
be distributing in the U.S. Ahhh, it's all connected,
ya see!? And, it silly promotion for a show I happen
to like right now (no thanks to Mike, heh.) Plus,
I had some One Piece wallpapers I made that I wanted
to show off, so I thought this would be a good way
to put 'em online. :P

2002 - Fake
DBGT: Final Bout video game cheat codes (and fake
screencap): This was the most sinister of my
April Fool's Day gags because it was the most believable
and ticked many visitors. Not wanting to do another
"Temple O'..." joke, I wanted to do something
that people might mistake for actual DB news. I
also did this siince I was slightly peeved at fake
cheat codes that exist online for getting Gotenks
in the game, which can't be done, and it makes me
laugh when people are dumb enough to actually try
to do it. So, with the help of some photoshop trickery
and some clever wording, the following fake news-bit
went as follows:
"Ladies
and gentlemen, today I bring to you some Dragonball
video game news that will put some ages-old rumors
to rest. This is bound to rock the DBZ gaming
community as we now know it. It's long been rumored
that Dragonball: Final Bout (for Playstation)
has some more hidden characters, such as Gotenks.
The common belief is that if you beat the game
nine times on hard without continuing, you can
put the cursor over Trunks on the character select
screen, and press 'Select' to pick Gotenks (http://www.gamewinners.com/playstation/DragonballGTFinalBout.htm).
We found this to be incorrect! Actually, if you
beat the game once with SSJ Z Trunks, once with
SSJ GT Trunks, and alternate this back and forth,
after the ninth time of THIS technique, you can
select normal GT Trunks, press 'Select,' and there
you have it.... Gotenks! Gotenks will then appear
in the lower right hand corner of the character
select screen. Also, if you complete the game
thirty times under the hard difficulty setting
with no continues, you can unlock yet another
hidden character...Pilaf! He will appear on the
bottom left corner of the character selection
screen. When I entered in these codes, I made
a screencap of the character select menu with
the additional hidden characters included:
This
should hopefully end the years of incorrect Final
Bout codes appearing on game FAQ sites everywhere.
Indeed, you CAN play as Gotenks, and even Pilaf,
and the proof is right here. :)"
-
2001 - "TEmpLE
o* GOkUo": Ah yes, my pride and joy of
all my April Fool's Day gags (and spelled incorrectly
on purpose). While a pretty obvious trick, I think
the result is pretty funny. When else can I get
the chance to pretend to make a typical, poorly
written and designed newbie-ish site? :)
-
2000 - "Temple O' Guldo":
The idea behind this one was to pick one of the
more pathetic and unimportant characters from DBZ
I could think of, and turn the ToT into a site dedicated
to that person. In the end, I was torn between Mr.
Popo and Guldo. Popo, being the more obvious of
the two to make fun of, ended up not winning the
pick, so a fake site for Guldo was made.
